Garam means hot in Hindi and masala means mixture of spices. The name is misleading because the mixture does not contain chili pepper. The heat, which the name refers to, comes from pepper, cardamom, cinnamon and cloves which are “hot” foods according to Ayurvedic medicine. Garam masala is native to Nepal and northern India.
Ingredients: timut, cumin, fennel, cinnamon leaf, ginger, pepper, coriander, black cardamom, cloves, cinnamon, nutmeg, wild cumin.

Garam masala is used like a curry.
It is ideal for dal, stews, fish, rice, vegetable dishes, bread and desserts
